Weekend Wrap Up: What happened in Top Shot this last week?
History was made in the last week for NBA Top Shot, but what else happened?
This past week, NBA Top Shot crossed a historic milestone in its early existence.
Top Shot passed $500 million in sales in 256 days since launch, per CryptoSlam. The next highest-grossing NFT is CryptoPunks which have done $217 million in sales.
It’s just a ridiculous accomplishment for Dapper Labs and the NBA.
Other major sports leagues are keeping a close eye on the sales Top Shot is generating. Sports such as the UFC are close to releasing a product similar to Top Shot with the best knockouts, punches, leg kicks, and more - also licensed with Dapper Labs. And as previously mentioned, the most-watched sports leagues in the world are already trying to work out licensing agreements with Dapper Labs such as the NFL, MLB, NHL, EPL, and many more to create a Top Shot of their own.
Other than that, let’s hop right into what else you might’ve missed in the Top Shot community this previous week!
Pre-Order Packs
For anyone who ordered a pre-order pack, Top Shot has already distributed them to all accounts. The pack came with three random moments, including rookies’ first points, player’s first Top Shot moments, and some pretty awesome moments, including LaMelo Ball’s first career points.
To anyone who was able to pull any of those moments, congratulations, as those were the best pulls you could’ve gotten out of the pack unless you received an extremely low serial on any other moment.
Future Pack Drops
Top Shot also announced that a legendary is going to drop at an unnanounced time in April. This pack will cost $999.
The only difference with this legendary pack drop compared to ones in the past is that there will be certain restrictions based on account snapshots that may have already been taken. This means that only certain collectors will be eligible for this pack drop, whether it be a certain amount of moments you have in your collection, the number of transactions you’ve made, or something else Top Shot is closely watching. The most likely reasoning for this is to limit bots. Bots have been an issue in the past with even Common pack drops, and Top Shot has no intention of bots getting their hands on any packs.
Speaking of Common packs, Base Set Series 2 Release 27 has hit the site. This will be a stress test, and most likely, there will only be a 30-minute warning before the packs are released. 50,000 packs will be available, and each collector can only get one. The link to Release 27 is down below:
Office Hours - April 9th Biggest Takeaways
Office hours are held by @Eisenberg43 on Discord once a week, and the most important takeaways are below. Jacob Eisenberg is the community lead for NBA Top Shot.
There’s no firm timeline on getting to a two drop per week timeline, but, could see them getting back to Monday/Thursday drops in the next month.
Most NBA archives becoming moments will be in Run it Back drops, so one season at a time — expect these in the offseason. Previously, Top Shot has released Run it Back packs ranging from Giannis Antetokounmpo’s rookie season, Manu Ginóbili’s historic dunk in the NBA finals against the Miami Heat, and a Dirk Nowitzki game-winner against the New York Knicks.
Withdrawals
Currently, this is one of the larger issues surrounding NBA Top Shot, but strides are being made:
90% of withdrawal requests are approved within seven days
Off-market trading will create delays in processing withdrawals.
Top Shot is 25% of the way to approving all accounts that have met the criteria to be able to withdrawal.
Top Shot has hired 30+ customer service support specialists to speed up requests.
Over the next month, Top Shot expects to have 2-4 times the amount of accounts to withdrawal compared to what they have now.
Top Shot is still processing requests to merge accounts from when they made the policy change in February.
