Marketplace Monday: Floor Prices
Today we're going to look at floor prices for Season 1 moments, Season 2 moments, as well as rare and legendary moments.
Prices have recently plummeted in the Top Shot marketplace; considering Pre-Order packs will deliver and hit over 300,000 accounts (nearly 1 million more moments to hit the marketplace), prices for Season 2 moments will continue to decrease.
Not only are Season 2 moments decreasing in price, but all moments no matter whether they’re commons, rares, or legendary’s, have dropped to where they were in January. So, for anyone complaining that they got to Top Shot too late and wish they joined in January, here you go. And by the way, Top Shot has only been fully up and running for seven months, releasing in October, so by no accounts has anyone joined “too late."
Right now, we’re in the best buyers market in Top Shot's early existence, besides when the product was released in October when there were under 5,000 users on the website. But now, with over 400,000 accounts registered, the market has never hit price points this low, and it's inexcusable if you're selling moments for less than you bought them. The only reason you should be selling is to flip moments to buy better ones or ones that mean something to you as a fan of the NBA.
Let’s jump right into floor prices for all Season 1 and Season 2 moments.
Season 1 Commons
Just over a month ago, the floor price for S1 commons was over $100, but now 36 moments are selling for under $60!
From a Nemanja Bjelica game-winning shot, which was one of the most memorable shots from the 2019-20 NBA season, to Malcolm Brogdon, who’s averaging 21 points per game and just missing out on the all-star game, there is tons of value in these moments waiting for someone to buy them.
Below are the cheapest Season 1’s on the market, and they are for a reason. None of these players are “stars” in their own right and are more role players for each of their respected teams. Eventually, their prices will go up, but every moment will only go for what someone is willing to pay for each particular player.
Under $80, there are 68 moments up for sale, and some of my favorites include:
Myles Turner’s poster over Marquese Chriss ($64)
Khris Middleton’s 3-pointer in the Eastern Conference Finals ($72)
Lou Williams’ game-winning jumper for the Clippers ($75)
Buddy Hield’s up-and-under slam ($79)
Season 1 Rares
Season 1 rares have a maximum mint cap of 750, with most capped at 299 made. The only real difference separating rares from commons is the border surrounding it, making the moment look flashier and more aesthetically pleasing.
Some rares don’t have common moments, and these are rarer than the ones that do have commons, because in retrospect - if I’m somebody that doesn’t have the cash to buy a rare moment, but instead, that exact moment that is common is up for sale for $200 less, why wouldn't I purchase that moment?
Yes, the mint count is lower, making it rarer, but it’s the identical moment with the only difference of having a sleeker border. For example, the cheapest S1 rare is a Danillo Galinarri steal finished with an and-one foul call, but I can buy that moment as a common for $59!
These are the cheapest S1 rares:
Funny enough, the cheapest S1 rares don’t match up with the commons. Cedi Osman and Josh Okogie (in the picture under S1 commons) sell for $399 and $474, respectively. Over 51 moments are under $400, and some I’d target include:
Kelly Olynyk’s finals layup ($295)
Jae Crowder’s finals assist ($300)
Markieff Morris finals 3-pointer ($350)
Goran Dragić’s finals layup ($385)
Sense a theme?
Season 1 Legendaries
Now we get into the big boys.
Season 1 legendary moments have the highest mint count at 79 minted, with some reaching as low as 25. Most people reading this most likely cannot afford a legendary as the lowest goes for an astounding $2,199, with Langston Galloway being the cheapest.
Only eight moments list below $3,000, and again, in most of these moments, the only difference between rares and theses is an even more detailed border.
But, for anyone who can afford these prestigious moments, these are the ones I’d be eyeballing:
Kristaps Porziņģis’ buzzer beating three ($3,800)
Danny Green’s finals assist ($3,821)
Jordan Clarkson weaving his way to the rim ($3,999)
Terry Rozier’s career-high 40 point-game hitting a late three in double OT ($4,000)
Season 2 Commons
Now, this is where we get into the biggest bargains in Top Shot currently.
Season 2’s have declined the most over the past weeks, considering most are still circulating in packs and are not limited edition yet. And as stated above, with more Pre-Order packs hitting accounts, the dip will continue with S2 commons.
The Season 2 floor for moments goes as low as $5! The maximum amount for S2 commons is Luka Dončićs’ Cool Cats reward from Cool Cats 1, going for $2,198, closely followed by LaMelo Ball’s first assist at $1,824.
We’ve seen Season 2’s reach this low before with the Season 2’s that are now LE’s hitting as low as $3, but then the announcement came that they were going limited edition, and they shot up instantly. Expect the same when the 35k circulating Season 2 moments get announced they will be going LE. Top Shot has already announced that about 10% of the moments will be going LE shortly, most likely the players dealt at the trade deadline.
Some of the cheapest moments have all-stars like Bam Adebayo, Mike Conley, Julius Randle, Bradley Beal, Jaylen Brown, and more for all under $10!
Some of my favorites under $10 are:
Fred VanVleet’s layup in his career-high performance dropping 54 points on the Orlando Magic ($7)
Collin Sexton spoiling the Brooklyn Nets’ big three performance forcing double OT while unloading 42 points in a win ($7)
Jayson Tatum’s wild behind the back assist ($9)
Devin Bookers game-winner over the Mavericks ($9)
This whole article could be on the best S2 bargains considering there are a ridiculous amount of moments severely underpriced, but I’ll save that article for another day.
Season 2 Rares
Like Season 2 commons, there are plenty of bargains in the rare category.
The floor for S2 rares sits at $132, with most of the moments being from the all-star game and rising stars sets. There are even some Metallic Gold LE’s (MGLE’s) with mint caps at 499 going for under $300, which is mindblowing, considering some of these moments are from players that are no longer on the teams they were in these moments. Caris LeVert’s Brooklyn MGLE, Victor Oladpio’s Pacers MGLE, and Lou Williams Clippers MGLE’s are just some that are all underpriced below $300.
These are the cheapest rares up for sale currently on the marketplace:
It’s astonishing to me how Nikola Vucevic is the cheapest rare considering he just got traded to the Bulls and was a Magic fan favorite, keeping them afloat from being the worst team in the NBA.
But here are the best buys for under $300 I’d snipe:
Chris Paul’s potential final all-star game, where he throws down a rare dunk ($280)
Deni Avdija’s 3-pointer against the Lakers ($275)
Markelle Fultz’s MGLE dunk ($294)
Théo Maledon beating the shot clock against the Magic ($298)
No rookie moments should be listed for under $300, considering the bright future many have in front of them. You’ve got to remember some of these kids aren't even 20 yet!
Season 2 Legendaries
Unlike the legendaries in Season 1, some of the most affordable Season 2 legendaries come from actual stars in the league. These player's skillsets are far from Langston Galloway who’s the most affordable S1 legendary.
The lowest ask for any S2 legendary is $1,724 for an Andre Drummond dunk. Andre Drummond’s skillset compared to Langston Galloway is a big difference.
Already, you can see that the two lowest listings are two former all-stars.
Here are some I’d love to add to my collection under $3,000:
Jerami Grant’s putback dunk against the Miami Heat ($2,100)
Deandre Ayton finishing off an alley-oop from Chris Paul ($2,222)
Duncan Robinson’s 3-pointer on Christmas ($2,997)
Brandon Ingram’s throwdown dunk over the Utah Jazz ($2,999)
Yes. These are all expensive moments, but down the road, these will be worth considerably more.
